    The St. Louis Steamers were established in 1979 as part of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Much beloved, they regularly drew over 10,000 fans per game. The team's roster also heavily featured local soccer players. They played their games at the St. Louis Arena (aka The Checkerdome), located south of Forest Park on Oakland Avenue.
