Will
Bruin
Bruin was born in St. Louis and raised in Creve Coeur, a suburb just west of the city. He played for St. Louis Scott Gallagher from age eight and went on to set the all-time scoring record at De Smet Jesuit High School with 102 career goals. As a junior he was named Missouri Boys Soccer Player of the Year and earned the first of two NSCAA All-American selections. That high school career stands as one of the most prolific in St. Louis prep soccer history.
He left for Indiana University in 2008, where he spent three seasons and finished second in the country for the 2010 Hermann Trophy. Selected 11th overall in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft by the Houston Dynamo, he went on to a 13-year MLS career split between Houston (2011–2016), Seattle Sounders FC (2017–2022), and Austin FC (2023). He won the 2019 MLS Cup and the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League with Seattle and earned two caps for the U.S. national team. He retired in February 2024 with 80 MLS goals — one of the most productive scoring careers ever produced by a player from the St. Louis area.
